Oh. Don't know if ncftp can do this, but with lftp, we have a -e option.
Like this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:(22) lftp -e "chmod 777 /pub" updates.redhat.com
chmod: Access failed: 550 Permission denied. (/pub)
