Further, most spec files have rm -fr $RPM_BUILD_ROOT in the %clean section, so you might have to build your package with rpm -bi (instead of rpm -ba or rpm -bb) to see what all stuff is present in your $RPM_BUILD_ROOT. In any case, your initial problem would have been solved by the addition to your ~/.rpmmacros as suggested in my first mail on this thread. Let me know if otherwise.
