which graphics card do u have ... my guess is that u r using the vesa
driver which is often flaky .. i've had experiences of the vesa driver
running on an older release of redhat but failing on a newer release. if
your diplay is an 845 chipset then get rh 9 .. that should recognize your
hardware completely
