Now a days the most of the Linux distributions have made their partitioning very much easy. What I recommend you is instead of using fips you can directly go for the disk druid after booting the linux from your cd. and partition it appropriatly there itself. Ok , It will give you all the details regarding your hdd. so go ahead and in case of any problem do feel free to contact. me
