A friend of mine & myself have installed Mandrake Linux 9.1 on our machine.
Now except for the onboard winmodem all other devices were flawlessly
detected during the rather smooth installation.

However, there is one problem we are facing in getting our machine connect
to the internet via shared cable. Under MS Windows this is taken care of by
the 24Online Client by Elitecore. I googled for "linux cyberoam" & "linux
24Online" and came across two sourceforge projects, one had a file aptly
named "24onlineclient-x86-1.0.tar.gz" and there was another called "linc".

Now when we installed 24onlineclient, and followed the instructions, after
the program setup, the server responded with a message that we have an older
version of the client and we should download a newer one from their site,
alas which contained a link to a windows client. I guess this atleast meant
that the program attempted to connect to the server correctly but...

linc (linc is not cyberoam) has the problem of creating the lincrc file. The
windows tool GenLincrc supposed to generate the lincrc file automatically,
does not seem to work. It asks to connect the client and after doing so, it
seems to wait forever and do nothing. So I wonder how else one would make
the lincrc file manually or otherwise, especially the authorization info
string in it.

So apparently we are stuck for now. I hope someone can help us out in this.
Overall the installation seems rich with features, and a little too
overwhelming at first. This is with the KDE 3.1 desktop environment.

To include another query in this mail, I want to know how to get access to
the root account with the GUI. During installation, we unfortunately setup
the system to automatically login to one user account.

Now to do any task, something like placing a file in /root, one needs to get
root access, but we dont know how we can get such access with GUI. The only
way seems to open console and go for the 'su' command. But that option is
not really so convinient for us, the command line I mean. Help please.

Vishal.
