I have rh9.1(simply superb ), problem i hav is very strange. When i play xmms (i hav installed everything to play it - no problem with xmms) the visualisation all works and it plays the format (mps,know rh has no support for mp3, i installed the necessary ones). The problem is i dont hear any sound.
I ran the "sound config" program. It detects the sound card, but does not play the test sound. My card is the C-Media PCI(CM8738), It also loads the driver (cmpci),But still i dont hear any sound. Furthur even the system bell does not seem to work. I mean even the "shell" does not sound the bell for prompting (i have enabled the bell for notification).

I also hav an onboard modem (winmodem- pctel). I detects it as communication controller, but names it as cm8738 (which i think is the name of my sound card). IS there a conflict between the two. Both work fine in windows.
The sound card works fine in Elx, Knoppix, RH7.1..etc. But not in Mandrake 9.0. Kindly help me with a solution.
