Does rdesktop hold up the server machine screen like vncviewer does?
i wish to know the differences, also which is more suited over dial-up lines?

The protocol of RDesktop is similar to that of any terminal services client. If you are logged in your session has been started, and if you close the client you have been disconnected but your session on the server remains active.
