The May PCQ has an article on Nokia models with IR to connect to PC. A 
program called GAMMU is also given. It seems that a 'modem' isnt needed at 
all. For Linux, an IR to Serial connector is needed for this setup.

I wish to use it along with a mail server to send E-mail alerts.

Any of LUG members who has setup such a thing?
