hi,
for last few days i am having strange logrotate
problem with sendmail. I don't know how the
"/var/log/maillog" used to get rotated on default
installation of RH8.0.
But few days back.. i wanted the logs to get rotated
everyday. So I changed the /etc/crontab to have daily
logs roatated at 9:00 am everyday.
Then I added these lines to logrotate.conf
/var/log/maillog {
daily
create 0664 root root
rotate 5
postrotate
killall -HUP sendmail
endscript
}
This rotates the logs but sendmail keep writing on the
rotated file i.e. maillog.0
When next run of logrotate comes it keeps writing to
maillog.1 and so on.
what is the problem. Does this mean that sendmail is
NOT getting the HUP signal at all. Then how do i
correct this.
