/etc/profile is used for system wide environment variables.
You may go like
CLASSPATH=/usr/local/java/lib/;/usrs/local/java/;
export CLASSPATH

in your /etc/profile. You may set/write all these variables in some file and
get it executed as with dot (.)  ".  /path-to/file/tobe-excecuted" in your
/etc/profile.
