Your scence is still not clear. Do you mean that you have 2 machines on
which qmail is installed? If yes, you need to tell how do you start
qmail on these two machines. How are you starting qmail-smtpd?

This is probably due to fact you might not have started qmail-smtpd
(thru' xinetd or tcpserver). Is someone listening on port 25? See if you
can find that out thru' netstat -a
Then see if you have firewall configuration on either machine blocking
you.
