Strictly non-technical...only for leisure...:-))
I happen to have registered some mail ids with an ISP so that I can
receive bulk mail from some mailing lists I subscribe to.
Now the problem started, when I tried sending a large sized attachment
to my mailbox, and it bounced. I mailed the tech support quoting the
problem. They(one Mr.Yusuf..) respond saying that 1mb is the max. size
of mail that can be received so I call up their Pune tech. support
division to say that this is simply not acceptable.
me > Hi may I speak to Ysuf please
support> Yusuf who?
me > can i speak to tech support
(..no response from the other end for a while...and after sometime of
waiting)
support> yes
me > yusuf?
support> no this is arvind here..
me > i got a mail from you people saying that you allow only a 1mb
of maximum mail size to be received
support> yes
me > but i am paying for this service per year and even free
services like yahoo allows mails of bigger size
support> no sir yahoo does not allow that
***what a mis-informed fellow***
me > i myself have received mails of larger sizes in my yahoo inbox
support> ....(no response )....
support> no sir.....
me > what mail server you use
support> ....mail server... we use linux based one...
***so these people use the word linux to scare away people...****
me > yah that is fine.. so which server is it sendmail, qmail ...
support> no sir we use linux based one...
me > which one ?!?!?!
support> we have our own one
me > gosh!! u mean you wrote your own mail server
support> yes sir we did
****i am literally ROTFL..:-)****
me > you don't even have people capable enough to maintain a mail
server then who did u get to write one...
***i am still laughing***
support> no sir the delhi people wrote it...
me > ... no no go find out what server it is man.. i will tell you
what config files to change to make it recieve larger mails
support> ok...
**** after 2-3 minutes of waiting
support> are you still there....
me > yes i am still here..
**** after 5 minutes and no response i hang up the phone.
I have seen tech support which makes fun of illiterate customers.. but
if tech support is this bad... what more can you ask for.
The ISP in itself provides relatively good service and I am happy about
it but then, tech support is something they lack..:-)
