Hi,

ok, Im a total noob with Linux, I just installed
RedHat 9.0 to mess around with, and was trying to
learn it by fiddling around. And I was doing ok too,
until I realised my Win98 was corrupted, and so
decided to reinstall it. Now, I did know that
installing Windows after isntalling Linux is a no-no
.... But, I was willing to take a risk, because I was
kinda desperate to get Windows in working order. So, I
went ahead and just reinstalled over the existing
installation. Now, my system currently WAS running
RedHat 9.0, Win98SE and Win 2000. So, GRUB would load
first, and if I chose Windows, then Id get the 2000
bootloader. The moment I reinstalled Win98, it ensured
the my GRUB was kicked into oblivion, thus leaving me
with only the 2000 bootloader! Now, I have no way of
getting into my Linux... I cant even use
PartitionMagic or any such thing on it, because i used
ext3 and the damn thing is not recognised at all!

Oh, and the story doesnt end there. I still had my
'trusty' Linux BootDisk, and I happily put that in,
only to realise that the frickin (sidenote - is
swearing condemned or encouraged on this list?) disk
was corrupt too, and couldnt do anything. Now, I still
have the option of using my Linux cds and getting
things back to normal, but I just want to know if I
can do anything to restore my system without using the
cds again.... Can I possibly use a boot disk created
on another Linux Installation (same distro)??? Or is
there any other manual method of getting back in
business???

oh, why did I call Win98 the antichrist? Coz after
reinstalling and messing up my Linux, as it turns out
with any attempt to reinstall and salvage, Win98 was
only messed up EVEN more, and so, I finally decieded
to reformat and reinstall from scratch.... And, well,
many of u might have already guessed, I lost the Win
2000 bootloader too!!!!! And using the CD to 'repair'
Win2k would not work, coz for some reason it refused
to find any installation of 2k on my HDD! So, I had to
entirely reinstall 2k too!!!!! Nice mess, I know...
:-)

PS - Anybody here using an AMD proc on a nForce2 based
board? Im wondering how in the hell I install the
onboard LAN drivers for the nForce2 board!? I got the
'nice' installation rpm for all drivers from the
nVidia site, and after installing those, my Linux conf
files even show a second eth, 'nvnet' ... Only problem
is that when I try to probe it for the MAC address, it
doesnt even find the device. I dont know squat about
installing drivers in Linux, so any help on that area
too, would be highly welcomed! Thanks in advance,

Karthik
