dear all

could any one suggest linux based softwares eqivelent to:-

- pc database like access or foxpro

PgAccess with PostgreSQL

-a web authoring tool like dreamweaver.

Quanta, Bluefish, Mozilla Composer, vim (yes, you should be a HTML
coder, not a dreamweaver expert).

-a software for producing a simple photo album --like MGI Photo suite

http://gallery.sourceforge.net/
Or perhaps the GIMP?
Describing what the application does in detail is always helpful.

What do i want to do ?

-create customised databases on the fly for simple chores like maint an addressbook, cd collections, inventory, employees roll
recipe collection etc
-maintain a personal home page.
- maintain a collection of photos and exchange albums or collages.
-make audio CDs from mp3 or other formats.
- edit videos and create video cds for personal or official work(without breaking any laws)
-print some cute cards for friends,family..
-run some educational cd for learning anything (nursery rhymes for my daughter ... to bhagavatgeetha for me)
i suppose my note is getting too lengthy...
some how everyone in linux world seem to be system/network administrator , or programmer.
i am yet to see a linux machine which caters for everyone in a family.
am i asking for too much ?

-audio and video file editors like nero wave editor or vcd cutter.

A recent PC Quest/LFY had carried information about this.

-------and some way to use popular multimedia CD

mplayer, xine, xmms

I want to migrate to Linux fully ; and I am sure there are many others like me;
but I would not be able to do so till I find ways of doing whatever I am able to do in a windows based PC.

(Wine is not really a solution )

Oh, and google and freshmeat are your friends.
