2. The problem was with /etc/pam.d/su configuration. On correction the 'su' command now promts for the password.

Something wrong with your /etc/pam.d/su file... should atleast have auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth account required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth password required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth session required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
With a proper /etc/pam.d/system-auth if login is working fine then your system-auth would be proper.

1. After logging in as one of the users into a rh7.3 box. On using su command , it directly gives access >to the root prompt, without prompting for the root password..
2. Has anybody experienced such a system behaviour.
3. What can be the reasons for this.
