I am running RH 9 with fetchmail, procmail and spamprobe. I am very sure that I have not tinkered with any file, yet, since the last few days, a few mails are remaining stuck in /var/spool/mail/spavri. Out of about 300 emails, about 5 - 10 are stuck in /var/spool/mail/spavri; the rest are properly distributed by procmail to the respective mailboxes in ~/mail.
What could be the reason ? As I said, this was working perfectly, and I have not changed any file. Procmail does not run in verbose mode.
If procmail is being used as the MDA then the mail first goes through it and (normally) if not matching any of the rules of procmailrc is appended to the spoolfile. So I dont think the phrase "mails stuck in spoolfile and the rest distributed properly" makes sense. the problem therefore is in procmail or more specifically procmailrc.
you can debug the functioning of procmail - yes it does not have a verbose mode but if you set the LOGFILE variable it will log diagnostics for you. man procmailrc to see how LOGFILE is to be used.
