hi,
extremely sorry for the delayed reply.. i'd remained a bit busy with my 
messy(adorable) debian machines.
deleting logical drives and creating room for linux on non-primary partition won't be 
problematic. AFAIK only one point to consider with old machines were the limitations 
to 1024 cylinders (probably i think this was the limitation of lilo -- not sure ). 
1024 cylinders go somewhere around 8gb. so if windows already has occupied >=8gb, 
depending on the situation, it might and might not work.
