The half-right way is to use "dd", with large block size.

The fully-right way is to use Ghost.  The advantage is that you copy the
used parts of the disk only, not the full 40GB.

We use Ghost, regulary.  Rolled out new desktops accross the office, 4 per
day, 1 person only.  Assemble, ghost, copy old data over.
