Hi
I have got an embedded pc which having a flash memory card of TRANSCEND 32
MB and 128 MB RAM both these are combined, i have connected a HDD and
installed Linux in that, now my problem is how to format the flash memory
card, and what will be the current file system.
my ultimate aim is to load Linux into the flash memory,
Sajith,
A more clear definition, perhaps written in language close to English, would certainly help clarifying exactly what the specs are.
From your description, what I can make out is that somehow your flash memory card and RAM are combined, which, of-course does not make any sense to me.
That apart, to try and answer your questions:
Different systems recognize flash memory cards [actually the falsh memory reader/writer] differently. For e.g. on the Advantech FWA-3660 that we have worked on, the flash memory card simply appears as the secondary IDE master and so it can be accessed as /dev/hdc
The reader/writer may also appear as a scsi device.
Regarding what "will be the current file system" - I have no real clue as to what you are asking, so I'll venture a guess...
-> If you want to check what filesystems are currently running on your system, man mount
-> If you want to know which the most current [latest and greatest] file system - well that's a subject for flame wars. I like ext3.
Might help if you post the exact manufacturer and model of the device.
Hope that helps... Varun Varma --------------------------------------- Mindframe Software & Services Pvt. Ltd. http://www.mindsw.com ---------------------------------------
