my debian sid compiles kmutt fine. do you have g++ ?? kmutt needs the g++
compiler for preprocessing. i have g++-3.3.
my ./configure --prefix=/usr/local gave:

checking for g++... g++

g++-3.3:

so you probably need to apt-get install g++-3.3.
