It should be /usr/src/linux-2.4.20
do a 
#bash# cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.20

Determine -px where x could be 0,1,2,... 
man patch for details.
Its usually p1 or p0.
If its p0
#bash#patch -p0 < /tmp/patchxxx
This will just patch and if it fails it will tell the filenames where
the patch failed and create some hunk files.
