Hello,
        I wanted to test how I could remotly connect to a xserver and get an
x application on my local computer. I believe the steps are as follows
:

//-----------Start of commands --------------
$ ssh -l <username> <remote machine name.domainname>

assuming that X forwarding has been enabled on the remote machine, use the -X option when running ssh

ssh -X [EMAIL PROTECTED]

should work.

setting the DISPLAY variable and running xhost+ are not needed with ssh.

however if you do plan to go the older way, you may also need to disable the "tcp no listen" option in one of the config files of your local box.

i'd like to help out some more, but i'm really busy to search and tell you the file. the foll helped me sometime back when i was trying to connect to a machine without ssh from a knoppix hd-install machine.

ps -ax, tells you the options that your xserver is using and parhaps even teh config file
if the above does not work, go to the /etc/X11 directory and grep the files there for the option.

find the file, change it and restart X

once again this is not really needed if you're using ssh.
