i hav a similar presario laptop.. 2184AT..
first of all, "disable Legacy USB Support" from BIOS.. it will solve
most of ur booting problems..
then get a 2.6 series kernel.. it has better ACPI support.. this is a
must coz these laptops use ACPI for power management and hardware
configuration..
