Fixed. I just had to add snd-intel8x0m to /etc/hotplug/blacklist - then restarted hotplug and ran alsaconf again, un-muted the sound card using aumix.
Sound works just fine now .. though the speakers on this model suck bad, my old compaq had JBLspeakers in 'em and the sound quality was wonderful. Currently etherkiller.hserus.net is a slackware 10 box running 2.6.8.1 + acpi patches + 16kstack patch in order to run the centrino ipw2200 wlan card using windows drivers and ndiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net). Intel's developing a native linux driver for this card, for 2.6.x ..I'll try that one sometime real soon once it stabilizes. It's at http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net srs On Mon, Aug 16, 2004 at 10:47:47PM +0530, Suresh Ramasubramanian wrote: > Hi > > I'm trying to set up an intel 8x0 soundcard on an acer travelmate 292 fxci > laptop, with slackware 10 > > bash-2.05b# lspci -v|grep -i modem > 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801DB (ICH4) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 03) > (prog-if 00 [Generic]) > > bash-2.05b# lspci -v|grep -i audio > 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB (ICH4) AC'97 > Audio Controller (rev 03) > > Kernel 2.6.8.1 > > Alsaconfig detects the intel 8x0 card and inserts the appropriate entries > in modprobe.conf - but then aumix says "no mixer elems found" > > bash-2.05b# grep snd /etc/modprobe.conf > alias char-major-116-* snd > alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss > alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss > alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss > alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss > alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss > alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 > alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 > -- ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by Shop4tech.com-Lowest price on Blank Media 100pk Sonic DVD-R 4x for only $29 -100pk Sonic DVD+R for only $33 Save 50% off Retail on Ink & Toner - Free Shipping and Free Gift. http://www.shop4tech.com/z/Inkjet_Cartridges/9_108_r285 _______________________________________________ linux-india-help mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-india-help
