Sorry Raj - It was for Sriram, my mistake, I just checked the last signature.
'fixboot' and 'fixmbr' is for 2000 and XP as Raj rightly pointed out. fdisk /mbr is the one for 98. This was advised 'If everything else fails...', if windoz still doesnt boot, grub can always be reinstalled without much effort.
I agree, for windoz problem go elsewhere, but I think 'Grub' and 'linux' installation is involved here somewhere. Apologies again, didnt mean to hurt anyone.

If everything else fails, you can boot with win CD, do 'fixmbr' and 'fixboot' then try booting win98, after this you can boot with linux CD and install Grub again, try putting it in linux partition and then copy linux boot image with 'dd', also edit boot.ini in your 'C:' drive to enable dual booting.
Does win98 come with fixmbr || fixboot ?? Even though, for win98 the old command that I'd remember is fdisk /mbr.
But does that solve the problem ? It would clear the MBR. That doesn't guarantee that windoze would boot. And you'd have already lost your Grub loader.
