There are two type of issues here:
1. Pages that (perhaps unwittingly) use proprietary HTML tags and/or
JavaScript extensions. Those are due to coder cluelessness and
probably can be easily rectified. However, it's usually difficult to
actually manage to render those pages in Linux, though I usually have
better results with Konqueror than with the Mozilla-based browsers.
2. Pages that specifically refuse to load up unless you're using IE.
Hate those buggers -- having to set User-Agent for each site which
``needs'' IE is a PITA, and the funny thing is, 90% of them work with
Konqueror and other browsers despite ``requiring IE 5.0 or better
(ha!)''.
It's usually some III-party developer who has made these pages for the
company the site belongs to, and the objective of putting pressure on
the client should be to ensure that s/he goes to a clued III-party
site developer the next time around. Hopefully that should eliminate
the ones who can't see beyond ``There is one OS: Winduhs. There is
one browser: Exploder'' eventually.
BTW, when I develop for the web I have a different issue altogether:
my pages work in Galeon and Konqueror, and sometimes don't work in
Exploder :) No way of testing them, you see.
