Well. You that's right. You can directly play the VCD.

But what I meant to say was that you can't read a DAT file
like a regular file from a VCD. Try copying the file in linux
using cp and you'll see what I mean. Playing back the VCD (or copying
the DAT file even) requires that you access the CD in raw mode.

So that's more like directly accessing the media, rather than
playing back a *file*. I guess the problem he was facing was that
he was trying to play back the DAT file as a *file* from a
mounted VCD.
