The proper method to get wvdial working is - As root, 1. wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf, then edit to fill-in the required details in the /etc/wvdial.conf file, Stupid Mode _is_ required for sancharnet. 2. pppconfig (in Debian), and giving details asked for, 3. Add the user in /etc/sudoers file, so that he can do "sudo wvdial" to dial, and finally, as user, 4. Setup and use "x-wvdial" to dial (this step is optional).
