Have you upgraded to kernel 2.6.8 by any chance?

Also note that some major changes in the way CD-writers are accessed. You can now specify the CD device(/dev/cdrom or /dev/hd[abcd]) directly while writing - SCSI emulation is no longer necessary. If you have recently upgraded to newer 2.6 kernels check out your cdrecord.conf config files.
