friends,

West Bengal Pollution Control Board, has launched today its EMIS
(Environment Management Information System). Hon'ble Chief Minister of
West Bengal Shri Buddhabeb Bhattachrya has made the the site open for
public at Kolkata in presence of Hon'ble Minister for Environment & IT
Govt. of WB, Shri Manab Mukherjee. The site is available at

http://emis.wbpcb.gov.in

The application has a G2C interface by means of which green
category of industrial units, seeking Consent to Establish in West Bengal
can submit their application and get its clearance status monitored and
know when it should come to receive its NOC from the Board's office.
Another interface is online for lodging of public complaints on
environmental matters within the state of WB.

What is most important for us is the whole system is on open source and
freeware. The servers are on Linux, RDBMS is Postgres 7.4, Web is on
Tomcat and Struts. The application is failry complex. With this partial
implementation the table count goes to 218. It is expected to reach around
400 when the whole system goes online.

tks & regs
