I agree that its not a preferred way, but sometimes
you have to do that if you can't lay your hands on
unstable/testing.If you have enough time to play with
apt and bandwidth to boot then you morph knoppix
hdd-install into Debian proper.I doubt that any major
problems arise out of this process.
