I am using a webhost that seems to support only pop-before-smtp. I am
using postfix/fetchmail/mutt on debian testing/unstable. I usually have a
small window after popping my mail within which I can send out the mails.
The server seems to be using cram-md5 as is evident from the following
telnet session.

--------------------------------
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ telnet mail.domain.tld 25

I'd like to be able to send out my mail any time, irrespective of whether
I have just popped my mail or not.

I tried the suggestions for
plain login with postfix and tried to change the settings for

smtp_sasl_security_options =

to noanonymous, noplaintext (singly and both together too)

but I can't get it to work. mail is bouncing with a 553 error message
saying:

553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) (in
reply to RCPT TO command)

any help/pointers will be apreciated. I have googled and followed the
instructions I have got but I seem to be missing something.

I then installed postfix-tls and sasl-bin. Now the error message I get is
:

-Queue ID- --Size-- ----Arrival Time---- -Sender/Recipient-------
752EE2BD11 605 Sun Dec 5 16:08:32 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(Authentication failed: cannot SASL authenticate to server
mail.pavri.net[64.29.21.135]: no mechanism available)
                                         [EMAIL PROTECTED]

At present I have undone all the changes I had made and things seem to be
working okay.
thanks,

Sharukh.
