| There is only one thing, that I want to bring to your notice,
| which you may like to add in your README or INSTALL. This has
| nothing to do with the script, rather, the DNS resolution. I
| could get pages using IP addresses, but not their names. I
| contacted Reliance to find out their DNS numbers. I was told to
| use "rconnect" under Windows since it does everything. Finally,
| I went to their show room at Bangalore, did a 'ipconfig /ALL'
| on a box at the showroom, and got the needed DNS numbers. Now
| that this has been added to /etc/resolv.conf, things are just
| about perfect.
|
AFAIK the nameservers are dynamically resolved during connection setup
using DHCP. the pppd man page says;-usepeerdns:- Ask the peer for up to 2 DNS server addresses. The addresses supplied by the peer (if any) are passed to the /etc/ppp/ip-up script in the environment variables DNS1 and DNS2, and the environment variable USEPEERDNS will be set to 1. In addition, pppd will create an /etc/ppp/resolv.conf file containing one or two nameserver lines with the address(es) supplied by the peer.
this /etc/ppp/resolv.conf file should be automatically copied to /etc/dhcpc/resolv.conf and /etc/resolv.conf should be a symlink to that file.
i have used this option in connectr script and it works just fine for my debian system. but i am receiving some complaints from mainly fedora users about failure to resolve domain names. it is now clear to me that this is due to messed up network configuration on that distro. specially 'route -n' dump from those system gives me that impression.
any way you can always add the next two lines to the top of your /etc/resolv.conf file to make things right again.
nameserver 202.138.103.100 nameserver 202.138.96.2
