I have no experience with Debian (I'm still with FC1!). You can try stopping nfs related services if you don't need them. AFAIK, Festival is a text to speech utility. If you are not into that, don't use it.I have also appended "ls /etc/rc2.d/*", which gives list of services running. I have tried to stop many. Please suggest if I can stop more, or any essential service which need to be running.
I think as you get to know your system better over a period of time, you would be able to identify the spots yourself where improvements can be done.
