My recommendations:
1. Buy good books on shell programming and perl programming (O'Reilly
books on these topics comes to mind)
2. Have a computer with Linux loaded ready.
3. Practice the scripts that you read about in the book.
4. Write scripts that solve real world problems that you face in your
day to day life.
