That is exactly true.
I'm using Dlink ADSL router 500T it has one RJ11 and one RJ45 port available. we used a cross over cable cvailabel with DSL router it iis working great ...

I believe BSNL ADSL is the same technology as that of MTNL. In Mumbai, MTNL is installing ADSL/Modem+Router from DLink 502T which has 3 ports (RJ 11 for DSL, RJ45 ethernet, and USB). Pls. ask BSNL to supply you with a ADSL/modem+router with an ethernet port. A cross over cable from the modem/router to the NIC on your Linux box is all you need. A modem/router with only an USB port may NOT work under Linux.
