I too faced a similar problem, but with Airtel. Booting into Ubuntu,
everything was
fine.
 
Resolv.conf was fine and no errors anywhere and even my dnslookup were
correct. But, no browsing, fetchmail, shh, et al. :-(

As a last resort, I installed sarge and everything is fine now.
