Dear List,
I wanted some info regarding where to extract the vanilla kernel
sources.

According to the vanilla 2.6 readme, it categorically asks the user
not to put the sources in /usr/src/linux, as that is generally the
place where the kernel headers reside for most distributions.

What, then, is the conventional location for extracting the kernel
sources? On my machine, I've had no problems with keeping it in my
home directory, as the make install automatically creates a symbolic
link in /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/ and all apps needing the kernel
sources find it. However, on systems with many users, what is the
conventional location where kernel sources are put (if they are made
available at all)?

Thanks.

Kumar
