One would expect gentoo products to _at least_ function the way they
themselves claim. Here the basic functionality is missing. The CD does
NOT install the way they have claimed. Once I can get the basic
functionality, only then can I look for stability.

This is why I talked about maturity and not stability. I get a feeling
that people are in a hurry to get their product out, without even
bothering to check whether it is working at all.

BTB, I am on debian, and quite happy with it. Just wanted to experiment
with Gentoo :(
