How do the the pgp sigs and md5sums help those who do _not_ use
Debian/Gentoo?

I have SuSE, Fedora, CentOS, Trustix on various production boxes. Every
self respecting Linux distro has it's own security annc. list. I
subscribe to those lists. Should I forward them to this list? My
personal answer is _no_ because then someone who uses Mandrake for
example will decide to forward Mandrake security annc. to the list. If
members started forwarding security advisories (with pgp sigs and
md5sums) for their resp. distros including pgp sigs and md5sums, then
this list would start to loose it's meaning.

The objective of my request is to alert the membership of a security
update, limited to a few lines, and let the member go to their distro's
site and download the patches.

To see if your distro has an update go to http://www.linuxsecurity.com/
and look under advisories for your favorite distro.
