iLO is HP's technology for lights-out management of Proliant servers. The way you use it is: 1. Hook up a CAT5 cable from the iLO port to a subnet with a DHCP server. 2. Fire a browser at the DHCP-assigned IP address for the iLO port. 3. Login using the ID Administrator and the password that would have come with the server (usually a sticker attached to the box). 4. Setup a static IP, change password etc. 5. Explore - there is a remote console that works via a Java applet. There are also server power buttons, UID control etc. etc. 6. iLO by default is text-only, you won't be able to see the LILO/GRUB splash screen, for example. If you boot your server to runlevel 5, iLO is practically useless (unless you pay $$$ for the "advanced" version. :) > Is it possible in Linux to create a RAID system after installing a Linux on a > small partition like creating metadevices in Sun sparc systems? If you have a SmartArray card, you have a RAID controller - whether you like it or not. Even if you decide to not use RAID, the driver for the card is still needed. So even the "small partition" will require the cciss driver. With SmartArray, you don't need to have software RAID in Linux. It is possible to manage the SmartArray based RAID from within Linux without loss of data, you need to pick up the Proliant management tools from HP's website.
