On a very small network I would like to configure the local network and
internet access to coexist peacefully. For this I have given the local part
of the network its own domain name, so that a typical machine on the network,
for example, is known as "machine1.mydomain.org". One of the computers on
this network uses ppp to dial up to an ISP whose domain name is, say,
isp.com. In order to access the ISP, I have also configured ppp to the ISP's
DNS settings and domain name.

Now I can either access the internet through ppp or access the local network
through eth0 but cannot do both. The problem seems to be the conflicting
domain names. The obvious solution is to change the local network domain name
to the isp's domain name so that a typical machine on the network is now
called machine1.isp.com instead of machine1.mydomain.org. But if I don't want
to do this is there a way however that both domain names can coexist on the
same network without conflict?

Thanks in advance for help
Pramathesh
