1. Bottom post please.
2. Wrong approach to create root password. The first user has all sudo
rights. The proper way would seem to be to sudo all root work so that
all powerful root login is not used for trival things.  IAC you can
"sudo su -" to gain root shell.
3. For single mode what you suggest seems to be the way but why the need?
