Ramesh,

If you are running your own mail server (sendmail, postfix, qmail,
exim or something else), you will be able to configure it using add-on
programs like spamassassin, dspam, clamav, etc. to quite dramatically
cut down on the spam and viruses your users see. If you control your
mail server, you can also drop quite a bit of the spam from even being
accepted using services like DNS based RBLs.

If, on the other hand, you do not have control over your mail server,
you can still fight spam quite a bit. You could, for example, use
fetchmail to pull your email from your POP server and run clamav and
spamassassin on the mail to delete / quarantine spam and viruses. This
way, you only get to read the non-spam emails. Also, you should use a
email reader that is capable of doing bayesian spam filtering. Mozilla
Thunderbird and Gnome Evolution both have this capability.

For us to help you we need to know:

1. What is your incoming MTA? Do you have root access to this machine?
2. What MUA or mail reader do you use?

Thaths
