I do not know the packaged kernel that comes with OpenSuSE or FC. I
have compiled my own kernel and suspend to disk works without much
effort. Hibernate requires some drivers to not be included and some to
be compiled into the kernel.

I have used Logitec and IBM USB mice and they worked without a hitch.
