Hi Dr Sharukh

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Definitly the GNU/ Linux ports for
handheld devices are somewhat lacking but hey I do sincerely hope it would be
better in my case

Reasons:
The WinCE pocketPC I have has a version of MSN Messenger that will not let me
sign into mesenger serverice, reason MS says during signup "It is an old and
incompatible version", though I am not an avid messenger users, but why carry
something which is of no use/ little use.

The so called pocket word seems like a primitive text editor, which will choke
on even some so called valid pocket word docs (automatically converted using
active sync utility from ms word docs). Ok I admit those docs were actually
exported by OpenOffice from ODT format :-D

It wont communicate with synce (the linux sync utility for pocket PC), that
means I will have to boot into windblows everytime I need to put something on
the pocket PC (that has increased the frequency of my windows sessions from
once a month to around twice a week, and during each such session I am always
afraid for the well being of my laptop).

Ok I agree the calender is impressive, but hey except for the on screen
keyboard the same thing is offered by my n-gage too.

I googled around and was unable to come across any development efforts on
audiovox thera, but since the hadrware is fairly compatible with similar
systems, i guess I will try this and if the GNU is in my favour I may get the
penguines in my pocket pc and not a brick to throw at windows.

Result of some of my search/ reserach
I can run all apps for flashing (though none was able to flash audiovox thera)
including the boot loaders on the pocket PCs, lets see if I can do something
more.

Wish me luck any help/ pointers would be appriciated.

Sincerely

Okay, this may not be exactly what you want but I guess a warning is in
order. I have a Sharp Zaurus SL 5500. It is an older model. The Zaurii are
natively built for linux.

I too wanted to have a better version on the zaurus, so I flashed it with
the latest OpenZaurus 3.5.4. Believe me, it was a major step backward. I
have had a tough time trying to get it working like it used to work with
the old Sharp rom.

With 3.5.3, I could atleast set up USB networking with my linux box. That
got trashed with 3.5.4rc. Lo and behold, when I flashed with 3.5.4, I lost
the use of the SD card.

I am seriously contemplating going back to the old Sharp rom or one of the
older OZ roms.

And before someone says it, yes, I have googled till I have tens of links
that I check frequently. The openzaurus-users list on sourcforge simply
refuses to let me in. I wrote to the list owner a fortnight ago asking him
to add me to the list but no go.

< end of rant > :)

so if you wanna mess w/ hardware that was not really made for linux... all
I can say is -- it's your brick :)

Best of luck.

Sharukh.
