firewall... iptables --list does not show anything.. stock debian sarge is installed on this box.. it is indeed postmaster on 5432.. $ netstat -anp | grep postmaster tcp 0 0.0.0.0:5432 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1019/postmaster something is going crazy here.. $ ping 127.0.0.1 shows 100% packet loss ifconfig shows loopback interface (lo) UP and RUNNING.. howvever, trying to add route fails $ route add -net 127.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 lo says "No device" Also, there is some highly noticeable packet loss on interface eth0.. is this bcoz of a bad ethernet card?? this is a 3com 905 card $ lspci shows 3Com 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 6c) seems like it has nothing to do with postgresql... :-) will try to get a new kernel as well.. this machine runs 2.4.27 which is supposed to be quite stable.. but is it faulty hardware?? lo shud hav worked.. ------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
