Did you try opening http://linux-install in a seperate browser window
/ tab? It is possible that you are seeing the page you got from
http://genesis while your browser is loading http://linux-install.

I have tried replacing * with IP# but same result.  Defining "linux-install"
as A record - same result.

In whatever case, linux-install being a cname or an A record, are you
able to ping linux-install? If that works, you have established that
your problem is not with DNS but with apache.

Any ideas/suggestions on could be missing in my setup?

What do the log files (access and error) of the virtual server
linux-india say when you try to access the site?
