So far I have had good experience with Sony media. A few problems with Moser Bayer (sp?). It is not just media "Made in India", I have experienced read errors on stuff I bought in the US (store brands and such). In the end, you get what you pay for (as the author concludes in above link). For data archival, use a NAS device if your budget allows. Another thing to keep in mind: The media should be kept at room temperature. Keeping them in cars and/or outside for extended periods in summer heat can cause potential damage - one of my bootable CD-R does not boot anymore although when mounted all other files seem to be fine. Besides, issues with media I have had 2 DVD writers (~2 years old) go belly up; I think the excess ambient dust is the culprit. -- Arun K.
