So far I have had good experience with Sony media.  A few problems with
Moser Bayer (sp?).  It is not just media "Made in India",  I have
experienced read errors on stuff I bought in the US (store brands and
such).  In the end, you get what you pay for (as the author concludes in
above link).  For data archival, use a NAS device if your budget allows.

Another thing to keep in mind: The media should be kept at room
temperature.  Keeping them in cars and/or outside for extended periods
in summer heat can cause potential damage - one of my bootable CD-R does
not boot anymore although when mounted all other files seem to be fine.

Besides, issues with media I have had 2 DVD writers (~2 years old) go
belly up; I think the excess ambient dust is the culprit.
