reported to launchpad already. On IBM T42 / 60 (?) with Ubuntu feisty/gutsy I faced this problem where after a resume from a hibernate, the sound was gone.
The problem seem solved when I changed HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown to HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown in /etc/default/acpi-support. Posting if it helps anyone.
